The present salary of the post is $1920 a year, (equivalent £400 a year) with an allowance of $30 a month for quarters, which in China it may be reduced to $1440 (equivalent to £300 a year) and so on its completion upon the commencement of a probationary term of one year of the Government. The present rate is to be confirmed to the satisfaction of the Surveyor General.
